Christmas markets in Paris and Amsterdam 2026: dates and trip planning

Planning a Christmas market break in 2026? Paris and Amsterdam both offer a compact city trip with seasonal stalls, museums and winter evenings, but their confirmed market calendars differ. Use the dates below to choose a travel window, then check each event’s official page again before setting off: opening hours and programming can change.

Confirmed dates to plan around

Paris City Hall lists the city’s 2026 Christmas-market programme across the season from 2 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. That is an umbrella period for multiple events, not a promise that every individual market is open throughout. The Notre-Dame market is separately listed at Square René Viviani from 26 November to 27 December 2026. Check the individual market listing for hours and location before you go.

Amsterdam’s I amsterdam tourism guide lists Christmas Village at Museumplein from 3 to 27 December 2026 and Amsterdam Winter Paradise at RAI from 17 December 2026 to 2 January 2027. The Christmas Village organiser confirms the market dates, but its headline schedule and FAQ give conflicting opening hours, including different weekend and Christmas-day times. No exact opening hours are stated here: confirm the schedule for your chosen day directly with the organiser before travelling.

Paris or Amsterdam? Choose by trip style

Choose Paris if you want to combine market visits with a broad city itinerary: neighbourhood walks, landmark sightseeing and indoor cultural stops. The City Hall calendar describes events around the capital, so think of the market as one part of a wider visit rather than a single central fair. Notre-Dame’s location makes it easy to pair a stroll by the Seine with the historic centre.

Choose Amsterdam if your priority is a defined market at Museumplein and a compact cultural break. I amsterdam describes Christmas Village as a mix of market stalls, seasonal food and entertainment, and lists the Winter Paradise separately at the RAI. These are distinct venues and experiences; allow travel time between them rather than assuming everything is in one square.

Build a realistic itinerary

For a short stay, select one main market and add nearby sights rather than trying to cover every seasonal event. In Paris, check the City Hall’s complete programme for the location and dates of the market you want; the Notre-Dame listing provides a specific date range and address. In Amsterdam, start with Museumplein and add a museum or canal-area walk based on opening times and weather.

Markets are outdoor events, so pack layers, comfortable shoes and a plan for rain. Confirm transport routes, accessibility details, payment arrangements and any admission or reservation requirements directly with the event venue. Do not assume that a listing’s daily schedule applies unchanged on 24–26 December.

When to book and what to verify

The published dates make it possible to compare early December, the run-up to Christmas and the period between Christmas and New Year. The two cities’ event calendars do not align exactly, so match your dates to the particular market rather than searching only for ‘Christmas markets’ broadly. After choosing a window, compare travel dates, accommodation location and cancellation terms on current provider listings.

No fare or accommodation price is guaranteed here. Search results change with travel dates, departure point and availability. Recheck official event pages shortly before travel for cancellations, revised hours and programme changes; use the city tourism service or organiser rather than an old social post as the final source.
